In an effort to reduce the number of people injured or killed in alcohol or drug-related crashes and to promote DWI prevention as a public priority, local and state law enforcement have cracked down on intoxicated motorists in an effort to curtail impaired driving.
Among the four arrested in Orange County overnight include:
State Police troopers from Middletown stopped local resident Jose Gonzalez, 40, on Tuesday night on Wickham Avenue when he committed a vehicle and traffic law violation. During the subsequent traffic stop, it was determined that Gonzalez was under the influence of alcohol and he was subsequently arrested.
That same night, troopers in Monroe stopped 18-year-old Monroe resident Griffin Winegard on Route 105 for a similar violation. During the stop, police said it was determined Winegard was impaired by drugs and he was arrested.
Each of the drivers was charged with driving while intoxicated, a misdemeanor and released to a sober third-party. All of the motorists are due back in court later this year to answer the charges.
